"Housing Design that Advances Health"
Shelterforce Magazine Explores POAH's Innovation Centering Trauma-informed Care
How do you make affordable rental housing healthier, more supportive places to live? That is the focus of a recent article in Shelterforce magazine. Among the forward-thinking leaders featured was the organization Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH).
POAH is one of the six winners of the Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge. Its innovation, Designing Trauma-Resilient Communities, takes a holistic approach. It encompasses resident services, property management and physical design.
“If we don’t, at a minimum, recognize the impact of trauma on our residents, on our staff, on the environment that we work in, we may actually be making things even harder for our residents to be successful,” said POAH Vice President of Community Impact Julianna Stuart.
